Side-By-Side welcomes individuals or small groups who wish to see and experience the ministry of Side-By-Side in person. Imagine having no home to go to, no permanent place to sleep tonight, no kitchen or dining room table to gather around, no family to welcome you, few friends. Imagine being ignored and even avoided by people you see on the street.
Side-By-Side offers several ways to assist you in your imagining. One way, especially good with youth groups, is to join us for “A Walk in Another’s Sneakers.” We begin with orientation and prayer at the Loaves & Fishes homeless organization. Then we lace up our sneakers for a two hour walk through downtown Sacramento, trying to see the city and life through the eyes of the homeless people we meet along the way. Participants are safely guided by an experienced staff person and sometimes also by a homeless guest. We walk down alleys, peak in dumpsters and more.
Other opportunities:
- “Ministry on the Margins” workshops
- Retreat experiences to go even deeper spiritually are offered to faith groups who seek to deepen their own understanding and level of compassion for those on the margins. These are arranged with the Side-By-Side Director for those who are interested.
- Tours of Loaves & Fishes and an introduction to Side-By-Side
